Hi Susan,
There is no clear cut answer for the question "is a bottom element a good
thing?"
Debris can & does accumulate in the groove, which can affect element life.
The bottom brick slab is weakened by putting a groove in it to receive the
element. The bottom slab is then more prone to cracking. We have had
customers ask to have the bottom elements removed!
Most of our customers have been quite happy with redirecting more heat to
the bottom side walls, in particular with a 3 zone control, bottom elements
are not required.
We can offer floor elements - we let the customer decide.
