Thank you for your enthusiastic responses to a workshop at NCECA regarding
handmade tools. HOWEVER, someone would have to lead the workshop, I am NOT
qualified. Does anyone know who we could suggest this to? Does anyone know
if Mel would be interested in doing a workshop like this ( his name was
suggested )? I will contact NCECA & forward our suggestion.

Vicki,
I saw a wonderful calaloge of tools (life time, tungston carbide, I believe
) at a friends house afew months ago and copied the address, I haven't yet
contacted themand don't even know if they are still in business, but my
fried said their pottery tools were the best ever, and NEVER wore out.
They are expensive, but not when you consider they never have to be
replaced. Maybe ther is another potter out there who has deard of them:
Bison Studios.? I will send you their Phone and address on you private
e-mail.

Vicki:
I suggest we consider something different than a workshop of demo. It
would be more like a longer session in which people could demonstrate
some of their special techniques in making and taking care of their
tools in the studio. Those of us who have attended NCECA the past few
years know we have on-going discussions on glazes and clay in the
Doctors' office. Nils has been one of our experts.
We just need a host to get things started and develop a list of folks
who want to show how to sharpen tool, make a wedging board, make
cut-wires, considerations when designing a studio, etc. It would be
especially helpful to students and those who are starting their own
studios as well as us old folks who want to learn new tricks.
As a trial run, we might consider a one-half day session and propose it
to the NCECA board with a list of some of the presenters. A list of who
was going to present what and when would be in the program. Allow, of
course, time for exchange of ideas with the folks attending.
