newbie questions, photography

I have to agree with Sandra, camera store personnel are not there to
give you a class on photography, and why should they. But the original
poster said she didn't know an f stop from a hole in the ground. I have
found the discussions here about photographing your artwork quite
illuminating, but I already knew quite a bit about photography from many
years of shooting outdoor subjects. If you don't know the first thing
about photography, probably the best way to learn is to look to your
local community colleges or other adult education courses. You may not
find a course specifically focused on photographing artwork, but it
sounds as if a general photography course would be more in order at this
point for you.

Photography is an art too. You wouldn't expect to become a great potter
by just reading a few books. You'd take classes, go to workshops, etc.
And even then, you wouldn't be a proficient potter immediately. It would
take time. If you really aren't prepared to put in some time and money,
(because you will have to purchase some equipment, do lots of
experiments, etc.), you'd probably be better off just letting a
professional do the photography for you.

I hope the folks on this list who are professional photographers do keep
posting information. But not from the ground up please. Find a class.
