need recommendation as to type of grog for large work

Dear Readers,

I have been working in clay for some time but I am still somewhat 'hazey'
as to the various type of grogs. I currently use an extra fine (30 mesh)
in my stoneware and it is sort of orangish in color. I also have a white-
maybe 20 mesh which I rarely use. I took over the studio from another
former potter and have great success with my stoneware and porcelain body.
There was a lot of grow on hand and I'm not sure what they are. Now in
large metal tins. no bags (records?) as to what they are.

Last year I did a very large piece (30" tall Urn) and used a type of (I
suppose fireclay) and I felt it opened up the clay and helped prevent lesss
cracking etc. The bag is old and I no longer know what mesh it is? I
currently keep excellent records etc. but my predecessor did not.

I also need to learn how to access Clay Art Archives for wonderful info.
(That is another story).

My supplier lists :

1. Standard Brick Clay
fine 20 mesh
Extra fine 30 mesh

2. Calcined Fire Clay
20 mesh
extra fine 35 mesh

3. Porcelain Grog
Molochite 30 mesh
Molochite 20 mesh

My Question is this: What is Calcined fire clay, what is Brick clay Grog
and or can someone enlighten me on what is their proper use as they are
obviosly different materials? So my QUESTION IS: For the large stoneware
heavy body for (large work or sculptural pieces ) which fireclay would you
recommend? Thanks.
