------------------
To those of you who are shopping for something to spray glazes, I thought =
I'd
post my review of the HVLP gravity-feed sprayer sold by Harbor Freight:
In short, it worked beautifully for glazing my bowls and platters that =
are
too big to dip in the glaze buckets. The nozzle orifice is big enough to =
avoid
clogging with any but a really gritty glaze. This is attractive to me, since=
I
hate sieving the stuff. The =BD-liter reservoir is big enough that I could =
spray
3 large platters without refilling. There's plenty of adjustment for air =
flow,
spray pattern and fluid volume. I noticed decidedly less spatter than with a
high-pressure spray gun, resulting in less to clean up in the spray booth.
Drawbacks:
1) HV stands for high volume, and they mean it. It takes a lot of air, at
about 40 psi. I found it best to let the compressor run awhile to fill the =
air
tank with a good deal of pressure before starting. 2) The reservoir filter
that's included clogged immediately. Fortunately, the sprayer works fine
without it. 3) The air regulator that attaches to the gun is rather =
chintzy,
and the knob was so tight it had to be adjusted using pliers. Once set, it
worked fine. 4) The reservoir isn't suitable for storing liquids over a =
long
time. Its lid is vented and the bottom threaded to attach to the spraygun, =
so
it's not the ideal quick-change storage jar for several glazes, as are jars
for some other sprayers (Critter, etc). Fortunately, it's easy to clean and
change over to another glaze.
Usual disclaimers: no connection other than as a satisfied customer=3B =
your
mileage may vary. In case you missed Joyce Lee's earlier posts on this =
topic,
you can find the item by searching for =2335787 at Harbor Freight's website =

First, Don Goodrich quoted my post to the list about the Harbor Freight
spray gun that I bought after taking a workshop from Tom Coleman. This
is the same sprayer that Tom used in his workshop in Vegas and
apparently uses regularly; he does a lot of spraying. Now, I've lost my
own first post so I'm quoting Don quoting me (love that..). You can find
the spray gun by searching for #35787 at Harbor Freight's website at

Hi, folks.. after researching the archives for a sprayer,, I checked out
the suggestions/recommendations that many of you have written about. I
checked the site for Harbor Freight for a particular model #2335787 that
now has been discontinued..Can anyone tell me their recent experience on
a purchase and subsequent use of a sprayer? likes and dislikes,,
prices, and companies to look for? Thanks so much...cool in the

My experience with Harbor Freight has been that the right hand doesn't know
where the left hand has itself parked. Recently, I ordered the HVLP sprayer
with the top mounted plastic gravity feed container and I was repeatedly
told by the order-clerk that the unit I wanted had been discontinued. After
considerable frustration, my boss dug out a previous invoice for the same
unit and called in the order himself. We had a new one within a few days.

Put some heat under them.

I used this type of sprayer in a production situation and found it to be one
of the best I had ever used. Both in controlling the volume and the
pressure, the ease of clean up, and in the ease of filling the sprayer cup.

They do require significant air volume, so make sure you have an air
compressor that is up to the task.
