What we really feel the safest with when it comes to large THROWN pieces is
rather than add anything is to trim a foot right onto the bottom of the
piece with an undercut so as to be able wrap sturdy wire tightly around the
foot adding a loop of wire to it to hang it on the wall. Or we will trim
the foot and pierce holes in two places in the leather hard piece and run
wire through it so that from the back the wire is triangular shaped. We
have done this with large platters. This way they can be used for serving
or hanging. Of course this won't work when it comes to hand built pieces.
With hand built large pieces, we have added clay or nubs as stated but in
the green stage and for added protection we have glazed around the joins.
Yes, there is nothing like a loud crash in the middle of the night to get
your attention. ;-)

Tim and Lori,
Thanks for your input on hanging large masks and wall pieces. The
pieces I am making are handbuilt, thus no foot ring, alas. I was trying to
get away from the nubs, thus the request for the type of adhesive or epoxy
that would be strong enough and durable enough to attach hanging devices.
Thanks for the added tip on adding glaze to the nubs, great idea for added
strength. I am going to try all the methods that have been posted in
response to my request, and I really appreciate everyone's kindness in
taking the time to answer and their generosity in sharing their methods.
All the best.
