Hi Lori,

Susan Wagener forwarded the post from you and another from Joyce because

she knows I'm working on "The Extruder Book." Given your interest in
extruders
and extruding, I thought I'd provide an update on the book since first
announcing
that it was underway, earlier this year.

I have received slides of extruder-made art from nearly forty artists
all over North
America. The work is remarkable. It ranges from simple beads to
full-room installations.

I've also received several sets of "how-to" slides which will give
readers a clear idea of
how to use the extruder for a variety of projects.

In addition to a chapter on commercially manufactured extruders, I've
included a chapter
on building your own extruder and dies. Plans and material lists will
be provided.

"The Extruder Book", published by The American Ceramics Society, will
be out by mid-1999.
In the meantime, look for an article by David Hendley which should be in
the next issue of
Pottery Making Illustrated (http://www.potterymaking@acers.org). The
Fall issue is shipping now.

This article explains how to make an extruder from an automobile bumper
jack and shows
some of Hendley's completed extruder forms. This article typifies the
kind of information
which will be in "The Extruder Book."

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the book.

Best Regards,
Daryl Baird
