Hi there..
all my students' tiles that we fired for the last few firing cracked!!
I feel so bad, they did such a wonderful work and I just can't look into their
eyes...
We fire bisque to cone 03, and glaze to cone 04, (oxidation), using 104,103
terra cota from ceramic supply, NJ, and white clay from Jack Wolf, NY. We are
rolling the tiles in a slab roller, and make sure that they are dried slow
with a wooden board on top so they will not warp.
I did not see any visible cracks before or after the bisque firing, but they
all cracked open, sharp cut,few pieces...
If you have any suggestion, it will be very helpfull!!!
Thank you, Ravit.

Hi.
We regularly fire tiles to cone 6, and although we have had some cracking
problems, the following seems
to have corrected them:
1) Dry tiles between sheets of drywall board (we use 12" squares for four 4"
tiles)
2) Bisque SLOWLY (if you bisque-fire slowly, then you can procede to glaze
fire in one step, if desired)
3) Use flint sand as a lubricant on the shelves as you fire

Hope this helps, j.b.
