One important element is to have a good turntable. It makes spinning the pot
effortless, so you can concentrate on the pot's shape.
Also, there are some very inspiring books on coiling, where there are lots of
photos from people around the world coiling enormous, perfectly symmetrical
pots.
Also, some throwing, no matter how disastrous, will teach you a lot about
centering and symmetry.
