chili today: kiln tomorrow sun. dec. 6

updated sat 5 dec 98

Thonas C. Curran on fri 4 dec 98

Skidmore Ceramics Studio in Saratoga Springs, NY will be all cleaned up
for Sunday's chili fest Sun. Dec. 6 from noon til 3 pm! You know, the
kind of fund raising (this for new kiln) where you purchase a handmade
bowl for $5 or $10 and they fill it with chili. (I am making Curran's
Irish Chili which I invented for a downtown Glens Falls chili fest one
St. Pat's Day a few years ago...corned beef, cabbage, boiled potato,
Guinness stout plus kidney beans and a whole bunch of other stuff, and
it turns out pretty much tasting like mild chili.)
Also a silent auction and a live auction at 2PM called by Jill
Kovachick (who teaches raku at Skidmore) and husband Bob, a TV
weatherman. Auction items include pots by Toshiko Takaezu, Regis
Brodie and a host of super talented people.
If you live in the vicinity, give it a try. You can ask more by e-mail
to caboose@capital.net (Now that computer is in our home, I share it
with railfan husband who retired from banking 6 years ago to open up a
model shop. That explains caboose which has nothing to do with pottery
except for fact that I have retail display at Trains Plus in return for
PR and shopsitting---better than selling wholesale or consigning (oops,
naughty word?) locally. So I am not Thomas Curran but Carolyn Nygren
Curran, dba CNC Pottery and nicknamed CNC. Does that explain it?)
In any case, Skidmore is THE clay place to be anytime, and esp. this
Sunday. I was self taught potter for 20 odd years, started going to
Skidmore for salt glazing workshop years ago, went back again for
fellowship of a raku class and independent study with the night school
types. Wouldn't trade the experience for a Sui Dynasty amphora!
(Just for you geographically challenged people, Skidmore in Saratoga
Springs is less than half an hour north of Albany, Exit 15 on Northway.
It's also about midway between NYC and Montreal, 1/2 hour west or less
from Vermont.) Cheerio, cnc
