I must admit I have never tried a brad point bit on metal but I believe that
brad point bits only work on wood. There is some possibility that they might
work on an aluminum work piece but not on steel. The need for a brad pointed
bit is eliminated by using the pilot bit. My opinion here is supported by the
recommended cutting angles for metal cutting tools that are different from
those seen in brad point bits.

Just check each step as you go and remember, JB Weld forgives all sins, well,
most.
