Is there a book, hopefully in the Hamer's Dictionary format, that deals
briefly in short segments with art history, artists, concepts such as
"negative space" etc? I have bits and pieces in many books and do grasp
the idea of negative space, for example, only because my office was
filled with Escher prints...how could I not? I have several
philosophically-based art books, "The Unknown Craftsman," for instance,
but nothing designed to fill in gaps quickly for an art ignoramus such
as I. Hopper's Form and Function tapes are a tremendous aid, but are
not meant to do the whole job. Thank you very much.

Joyce, "Design Language" by Tim McCreight gives part of what you want.
It define a hundred or so terms used in art/design. It's a good little
reference book for only $8.95.

"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed, and
hence clamorous to be led to safety, by menacing it with an endless
series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." H.L. Mencken, 1925

This post is about a book I am searching
for. I received a phone call from the author, 91
years old living in Detroit, who wrote a book a
few years ago
closely called,
"Dictionary of American Potteries".
She only published 2000 and they are now out of print.
Anyone out there ever hear of this book? Sorry
I did not get her name as it sounded foreign and
our conversation was so interesting in other
ways neglected to write it down. Thanks for
any info.
