another blue question

Another blue question for the glaze experts...

The analysis of Sam's blues is interesting... I have a blue glaze that is
quite similar to Sam's recipe, except mine has a bit of zinc. This glaze
drives me nuts, but I do use it a LOT. (It also out-sells all others at
least ten to one... but what else would we expect???) It is very sensitive
to temperature as well as thickness of application. But it will vary
considerable from a dull almost greenish color to a lively but not gaudy
blue with small titanium crystals. All those variations can appear on the
same piece. It will bubble if refired but mostly just goes dull.

I came across the base recipe somewhere and then just added colorants to
find a color I liked.

Seems best at a hard cone 9. (goes dull at 10) Will not refire well.
oxidaton. I do not do a soak or anything to slow down the cooling.

SHEN BLUE

Kona Feldspar 37.8
Whiting 20.9
Kaolin 19.8
Silica 15.8
Titanium Dioxide 4.2
Zinc Oxide 1.5
------
100.0
Cobalt Oxide 1
Copper Carb 1.6
Bentonite 2

Is there a way to make this a wider firing range and keep those titania
crystals? If so, I think it could be a nice glaze for others to try.

Thanks! Hope you can help!

Jean
