amaco and wheel troubles

Hi, Diane,I had a malfunctioning Cxc and took it into aamaco myself because
I live fairly close to the place. The crew there managed to replace every
blasted thing on it, blew 2 motors before the problem was solved. they only
put the wheels together there. Never did figure out why it had sudenly
stopped in the firstplace! I think the components are still made in CA but
I don't know. The company is geared for the "painted bird" ceramics crowd
and elementary schools and appears to know very little about potters and
people who actually make the clay items. While they were fixing the wheel,
there seemed to be nobody who actually knew what he was doing. Not very
encouraging. I know that there are at least 2 knowledgeable people on the
staff, one named Paul the other Sherry but that is not near enough for a
large company like that. The walk in store ,Brickyard,at the front of the
amaco plant, has no one at the desk who knows anything about clay,
chemicals, kilns,ANYTHING at all about the business. What I wouldn't give
for a caring smart company in this state along the lines of Minnesota Clay
or Baileys. We Hoosiers have to go far away for a good helpful clay company
that caters to anything other than "greenware"ceramicists. other Barb in

Don't know if I can respond, not being a Hoosier -- my standards may
be lower. But I have had nothing but good experience with Amaco
products and The Brickyard. We do 100 % of our work with underglazes.
Prior to using Amaco underglazes, my experience was other
manufacturers changed their colors (not the name, just the color sold
under a name), their consistency, their availability -- all without
notice to their customers. Amaco underglazes perform consistently,
consistent colors -- we like working with them.

As for The Brickyard, I can't attest to their in-store knowledge, but
I will vouch for the fact when an order is called in, it gets shipped.
That may seem obvious -- until you deal with other companies out
there. We would get half an order shipped, with no notification on
missing product, or nothing shipped for weeks and weeks, despite
promises to the contrary. Since working with Amaco and The Brickyard,
I have been able to slim down underglaze inventory that I had to carry
in order to assure continued production. In our case, that amounts to
several thousand dollars that I don't have to have sitting on my
shelves getting stale, just in case I can't get supplies I need.

All the usual disclaimers. In fact, everything you say about Amaco
may be true, and everything I say may be accurate, as well, since we
are talking about different aspects. All I know is sitting here in
Arizona, they look great.
