movers and ceramics- will my art make it????!!!???

In a short time we are having a moving company move everything
(including all of the pots and ceramic sculptures) across the country.
We are driving. I would love to be in charge of transporting my art
myself, but I am not. In fact I should not (or maybe so?) even pack
them myself, because the mover's insurance will only cover what the
movers, themselves pack. Do any of you have any experience with this?
I am so worried. I dread opening boxes of shards, not whole pots. I am
using a reputable company. They have surveyed the works. They pack
only with paper, not bubble wrap, styro peanuts or anything else. What
do you think? please help

Thanks,

I have not had any firsthand experience with movers, but I have heard
dozens and dozens of horror stories through the years.
All of the companies are "reputable" until you have a problem.

I would not let a moving company near any of my treasured ceramics.
When (not if) you open a box of shards at your new location, that
will be just the beginning of your frustration as you attempt
to make them pay up. Do you have paid reciepts for your pots and
sculptures? Then forget it; you'll never get the full value.

If you value your collection, you must insist that you be in charge of
transporting your art.

Best of luck,
