Hello Clayart list!

Here is a brief introduction. My name is Sierra Polsinelli and I am a
new to wheel thrown pottery. I have been primarly building small
sculptures, and pots. I was even persuaded by a friend to do a set of
hand built dishes. That was fun!

I am also a harpist, teacher (computers), spinner, quilter ..... (the
list is endless).

To introduce myself to wheel thrown pottery at a low cost I purchased
a York Kick Wheel. This is a small wheel, made of cast concrete. The
wheel is all in one piece, and will last forever. There are bearings
at the bottom that aid in spinning. The gentleman who designed them
is a retired aerospace engineer. The wheel only handles up to 3
pounds, but it is ideal for travel (only weighs 50 lbs).

I really like this little wheel. It takes a little extra effort to
center the clay, but if you wedge and knead it until it is fairly soft
- you will have much better luck.

I'm looking forward to being an active participant on this list.

Happy potting.

:)

Hi Sierra,

I like the York Kickwheel Too. Roger York is my weife's cousin and a swell
guy as well as a terrific inventor.
It is fun to throw small vases on it. It is great to bring to shows to
demonstrate throwing.
