grolleg body @ ^7?

updated wed 12 aug 98

Has anyone used a grolleg porcelain body at ^7? The rating is ^8 - ^10. I
am using it for dinnerware and bowls. My glazes at ^7 are suiting me so I
hate to start doing ^8.

Thanks for input and helping pre production stress.

I would suggest that you do an absorption test of the clay body at the temp
you wish, to avoid any later problems with delayed crazing caused by less
that mature body absorbing moisture over time. A glazed piece can be given
the freezer /boiling water test. The glazed pot can be put through about a
dozen cycles in the microwave using a weak tea or coffee solution. The tea/
coffee will stain the crazing if it occurs from a fit problem or from
moisture swelling the body. MB.

I have used a cone 10 porcelain at 6 and it "works for me". This particular
body is from Kickwheel in Atlanta.

No problem.
Just use enough feldspar to make it vitreous.
Start with 20 silica, 30 spar and 50 grolleg. Test and increase kaolin
at the expense of silica until you have zero porosity. Add microfine
bentonite to get the plasticity you want.
