My daughter-in-law's parents were at the time this took place working
full time in clay.

Due to one of those hiccoughs in communication that can happen, each thought
the other had switched off the kiln on the Saturday evening. On the
Sunday evening they noticed the metal door of the kilnshed glowing!
Could not get into the room at all, it was like a huge kiln itself.
Pushed a long pole in through an "airbrick" and switched off the
electricity.
Could only get in a couple of days later, the kiln was a melted heap,
ware, shelves, bricks the lot except for one small sculpture of a
praying figure that was also in there made from the same clay as the
other stuff. It too had just started
melting, looks like tears are running down the face.
Several mysteries here:
How did the electricity keep running?
How did the room itself not catch fire?
How on earth did that little figurine survive?
