propane burner plumbing question

updated fri 17 jul 98

I've got a fairly small kiln w/2 propane burners (c.10 stoneware).
Unfortunately, the line from the tank has recently become slightly
crimped. I was wodering if it would be safe/possible to replace the
line w/flexpipe, like the kind used on outdoor grills, etc.

Any suggestions?

Steve,

Those corregated lines are for low pressure only (14"wc or less). If they are
flexed repeatedly, they will crack. I recommend them sparingly and only under
certain conditions. Feel free to give me a call if you have additional
questions.

I recently purchased a second hand 8cu ft gas kiln for my wife at a very
reasonable price from a retiring potter. He used it for bisk firing and had
a much larger 50 cu ft for glaze firing.

He used LPG gas and it only has one burner. We have natural gas to the house
and was prepared to buy a new burner so that we could use this gas. I have
just found out that we will probably have to have a new line run in from the
main as the existing line probably won't have enough pressure, so I am
considering using LPG.

From my reading I find that most kilns about this size have two burners. Do
you think I will have to fit another to fire to stoneware temps cone ten. If
I do have to fit another would it be necessary to fit it on the opposite
side of the kiln to the existing burner?

Thank you in advance.

I always use standard high pressure rubber flexpipe on all the burners I
make up, because when it's damaged, perished, etc. you can SEE where the
problem is, rather than find out when it catches fire, of leaks gas into
the wrong place (BANG!).
