Well, we're well and truly back from our two month trip to South Africa, and
I'm finally pulling myself together to the point of getting back onto
clayart (not to mention back into the studio.) We had a wonderful time -
Thoroughly enjoyed clayarters Toni Martens and Tracey Collier: Toni who
took us in and made us feel wholly welcome and at home, and Tracey who
entertained us and lent us their camping equipment, and helped with so many
details. And we were delighted to meet Ralph and Fay Lowenthall - they
joined us for a few hours at one of our campsites, and we lolled about on
the grass and talked about pots and glaze materials and "the market" and
firing temperatures and colours and designs and all the stuff potters go on
about. It was lovely. They gave us a beautiful pot that Fay had made - I
haven't had a chance to take a picture of it yet, but when I do, it'll go up
on the web-site, with notice to you all.
In the meantime, I've started a sort of saga of the African trip, on our
website (http://www.island.net/~shelford/everelse) - this first chapter
includes a few pictures of the pots and gallery of Andrew Walford, a
well-known potter near Durban. Hope you enjoy it - there will be more pot
pics in future installments - I'm trying to keep to some semblance of the
order of our going, as a number of you expressed an interest in hearing
about it.
Looking forward to getting back into the swing of clay things again!

- Veronica

>Mr. Clennel's posts that brighten my days and oft leave me with a
>giggle that lasts all day, Mel's travels, teachings and occasional
>cat amongst the pidgeons, Joy who gives us glimpses through far seeing

>friends who write off list, all the help, advice and
>caring that flows back and forth........ and all the while a river

Dear Toni: Took me a moment to figure out what Seouf Efriken was. In this
part of the world a person might say" Thar's eh friken bitch of cold
sou'wester blowin' eh?
There is a strange mix of characters on this Clayart cyber river. something
there for everyone. It has been absolutlely fantastic to see how my friend
Jane has used this vehicle to address what I know is a big scary thing.
Fight, big fighter, fight! It was Jane herself that said you can't loose
your sense of humour, so with that in mind I got to tell you about a fellow
Clayarter friend of mine who will remain nameless that said " I'm glad I
wasn't born with boobs, cause I'd never get any pots made, I'd being
playing with them all the time".
Just another one of those Clayart characters!

cheers,
Tony
