smoothing the bottoms....

We use adhesive backed sanding disks, available in a variety of grit sizes
for this process. Take some spare bats, designate them for 2 sizes of
grits, and use your wheel and sand away. We use a 60 grit with does a fine
smoothing job,and sometimes finish up with an 80 grit.

These are available form most home supply stores or industrial suppliers
such as WW Graingers or McMaster Carr.

I've followed this thread and have yet failed to see the solution I use.
Bob Briscoe turned me on to this one. Get a "flap wheel" for your bench
grinder (little strips of sandpaper or emery cloth on a gizmo that will fit
on your arbor, mine must have 50-60 little strips) you can use it like a
buffer to take off the rough bottoms.

Works like a charm.
