SIXTH ANNUAL VERMONT CRAFT OPEN STUDIO WEEKEND: MAY 23-24

Named one of Vermont's top ten summer of 1997 events by the Vermont
State
Chamber of Commerce, the Sixth Annual Open Studio Weekend will be held
May
23-24 from 10:00 - 5:00 in studios throughout Vermont. One hundred
thirty-five
Vermont craftspeople will invite the public to visit them at work in
their
studios during Memorial Day Weekend. Among those participating are glass
blowers, printmakers, potters, furniture makers, weavers, ironworkers
and wood
carvers.

Sponsored by the Vermont Crafts Council, the Open Studio Weekend offers
the
public a rare opportunity to visit members of Vermont's nationally known
crafts community in the environment where they create their work.
Although
work will be for sale, this is not just another craft marketing event.
These
two days have been set aside by participants, many of whom are only open
to
the public during this weekend, as a time when they will make themselves
available to answer questions, and to demonstrate the skill and
processes
used to make their work.

The Crafts Studio Tour Map, containing directions to participants'
studios,
will serve to guide visitors through the state not only during the event
but
also through the summer and fall of 1998 . Those wishing to visit
studios
during the Open Studio Weekend should pick up a free Map from one of 12
regional information centers around the state or from Vermont State
Tourist
Information Centers, and Welcome Centers at Rte 4, Fair Haven, I-91 at
the
Massachusetts border, and at the Canadian border in Highgate. A copy of
the
Map can be ordered by contacting the Vermont Crafts Council, PO Box 938,
Montpelier, Vt. 05601, (802)223-3380. vt1crafts@aol.com

Also find maps, directions and examples of participant's work on the

Studio Weekend section of the Vermont Crafts Council web site at:
