shino/custom stamps

Yes, I loooove the shinos I'm firing and will report after I've fired
several more small loads. Also, opened the door of the kiln yesterday
and for the first time (well, maybe third now) it was, indeed, like
Christmas! That ol' rutile blue that only fires brown or pale
blah???...well, that same glaze on a plate with wax in HEAVY reduction
is the most interesting I've ever seen. Unbelievable to these ancient,
but not widely tutored eyes! More later on that.

Now, my question. Do any of you know where I can have a couple of
custom stamps made? One would need to be a detailed carving of an old
treadle sewing machine. I'd like one to be a more or less line drawing
of a frog. And another of a fancy J L. Remember, I have NO art
background with, recently only, the exception of pottery. Sooo I really
wouldn't be able to send a drawing of what I want. Thank you as always
if you're able to help.

In the Mojave going out to water a yellow rosebush that has only had
leaves on it...no buds, no roses...for a couple of years due to extreme
neglect and an infamously murderous gardener/potter in charge, but with
the advent of El Nino now has about 15 buds ready to blossom. Reckon
water is the key? Live and learn...

Hi there,

I am a tile maker whose work is founded on my creating stamps from my
drawings. I would be glad to provide you help and should discuss details,
cost etc...with you further. I receive email at eaferrari@aol.com or you can
call me eastern time at 914-657-2136 during the day or 914-758-9233. I will
try to attach a sample of on of my designs to this note.
Thank you,

Joyce,

I get my stamps made in one of two places: Rubber stamps are ordered
through a local office supply/stationers; laser-cut wood stamps are made
by a local trophy supplier/engraver supplier. The laser-cut wood stamps
are teriffic for their sharp detail.

Try Tandy Leather Co. if you have one near you. They make metal stamps for
leather, which work well for pottery. Have no idea what they would charge,
but do know they make custom stamps.

Dear Joyce:

Check some of the free clip art pages on the web. You might find a picture of
the sewing machine there. If not, get an art student who'll work cheap to draw
a photo, or look in the library in the antique books. You may be able to find
a photo there and photocopy it. Then take it to a business supply store or a
printing shop. These places can usually order custom made stamps. Make sure
you ask that the stamp be made deeper. Most ink stamps are not deep enough to
make an optimum depth for pottery.

Good luck!

I can make custom stamps for you, but you will have to supply the art work. We
make our own polymer stamps for use in our pottery. We do lots of sayings and
designs to press into clay. Let me know if you want more details.
