NCECA '99, 33rd Annual Conference,
Columbus, Ohio
March 17-20, 1999
Theme: Passion and Process

Motives and Rewards in Professional Craft Arts

Moderator: Curtis Benzle
Panelists: Small and large ceramic studio businesses

Panel discussion examines the reconciliation of passion for creation and
the practical need to sell and otherwise generate sustaining revenues. Is
there a false dichotomy in the notion of creative expression vs. market
awareness? Can artists find ways to produce marketable work and maintain
creative integrity? How can they market and sell themselves and their work
without significant artistic compromise? How do creatively expressive
artists become professionally and financially successful?
