My wife wishes to return to school after we relocate to Michigan. She's
interetsted in pursuing her undergraduate degree in art, with a major
emphasis in ceramics and a minor in metalwork. We will be close enough
to both Ann Arbor and Lansing to make the drive to either University of
Michigan or Michigan State with equal effort.
My question is -- which is a stronger school for clay? What are either
school's art or ceramics departments' reputations? Any input would be
appreciated.

Darryl

Don't overlook the program at Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti!

Neither school has a highly regarded art department let alone a ceramics
department that is highly regarded. Michigan state has better facilities if
you really want to go to one of the two.

I'd look at Eastern Michigan University. It has a very strong clay tradition.

I believe that U of Mich is in the process of hiring several new, young faculty
members in ceramics. Perhaps it will be improving soon???
