extruder plans

updated fri 5 sep 03

Several people have requested specifics about the extruder with the removable
barrel that I built. First, let me say that this was not just my idea.
Several people on the list said that they had done the same. Dale McClesky
even sent me specifics. Those ideas combined with a few of my own brought
about the end product.

Would be happy to share with anyone, if you will send me your snail mail
address. Will have to include some drawings and I am too much of a computer
idiot to that on the computer.

First off-I bisque fired my kiln yesterday. Wahoo--everything survived
intact. I am thrilled and now have enough confidence to even (gasp) head off
into the land of glaze firing. Thanks for your help.

I would like your extruder plans, too. My address is:

Mary Scollay-Ward
Endless Summer Farm

Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33331

Thanks.

P.S. Was that your ad in CM regarding plans for slab rollers? I saved the
ad, and then proceeded to lose it. If it was your ad, I would also like to
order those plans. Please remind me of the cost and the address to send my
check.

Well folks, I'm a little overwhelmed here. Finally finished the extruder
plans. Had no idea so many people would want them. Am mailing a bunch out
today. Anybody else who would like them, please send SASE. Another
Clayarter is going to try and scan the plans for me and send them back. That
way I could e-mail them in the future. Don't know how they will scan though.
Will let you know.

Diane:
I must have missed the original post, because this is the first I've
heard of an extruder-plan giveaway!!! I would like to have a set if
you will send me where to send the SASE and the cost. Thanks.

I have received many SASEs requesting the extruder plans that I desribed on
April 27th and I have sent them all out. I have now learned to send the
plans as an attachment to an email in a JPEG format. I am still on a
learning curve with the cyberhighway. John Moir, from New Zealand, suggests
it may be helpful to note that the jpeg file can be opened by inserting a
picture from file in MS Word or your AppleWorks. Those that still would like
the plans just send me a email and I'll get them out to you.

Hi all,
I am a newbie here. I have been lurking and reading and absorbing all the
wonderful info. I am in desperate need of plans to make an extruder.
Unfortunatly my salary will never allow me to buy one ready made! and I
don't think I will win the lottery in the near future. Any help would be
greatly appreciated!
thanks,:)irene

If you are seriously interested in building an extruder, I strongly
recommend that you buy The Extruder Book, by Daryl Baird.
Included are several plans for building your own.
My plans for the 'bumper jack extruder' are in there. The plans
are also in the Winter 1999 issue of Pottery Making Illustrated
magazine.
These are both available to buy, borrow, or check-out from
libraries. The American Ceramic Society published
and owns both these resources, and they are available at
http://www.ceramics.org

You will save $300 by building your own, more than enough
to justify the price of the book, and then you will also have all sorts
of information about using extruders. Diana Pancioli's book "Extruded
Ceramics" is also well worth buying, if you are really interested in
extruding.
