hand-controlled wheels?

updated fri 3 apr 98

Hi Everyone;

Welcome back all you conference-bound clayarters. Yes I too am
jealous. I'll see you all in Ohio! I may be bringing my aprons with
me. (By the way, who would I contact about being an exhibitor next
year? TIA)

My question du jour is, are there electric wheels out there, besides
Shimpos, that have a hand controller? I love the Shimpo I am currently
using but is is older than the hills and is not mine. It belongs to the
school I work in and I am fortunate that I'm the only one who wants to
work at it. The older wheels are currently being replaced and I am
afraid I'll walk in one day and find this "gem" replaced. At that point
I may have to "get my own" and start working at home.

The reason I need the hand controller is that I stand to throw and find
the hand-control so much easier to maintain a smooth rhythm in my
throwing. I like the way the Brent performs but really can't get used
to having to shift my weight (which is considerable these days, and the
reason I stand) to adjust the speed. I don't have the wrists to throw
large amounts of clay so am not necessarily looking for the most heavy
duty of wheels.

TIA

BULLETIN!!
Dear Apron Lady,
The brand-new, just unvieled at NCECA, Bailey
Pottery Wheels have a provision for a hand controller.
I don't think they are even in production yet, but will
be soon. They come with all manner of 'bells and whistles'.
Ordering one will be like buying a new car:
"And, would you like the interior convience group on that, madam?"

Apron Lady (AKA, Wendy!)--I noticed an ad for the new Jepson Pro station
wheels in the April CM--the ad (page 17) indicates you can request a
hand speed controller. Don't know anything about it...just quoting the
ad :>) mary
