Hi All:

We have 3 Bailey or Cone Art Kilns and each is vented with a Skutt
Environvent. We have had them for several years. Recently, schmootz,
crud, black soot or whatever you want to call it has begun to build up
around the vent holes and fall in the pots beneath. Very annoying. I have
spoken to both Perry (or Terry) at Skutt and to Dale Fronk at Orton and
both have said that they never heard of this problem. I cant believe that
we are the only ones with this build up around the vent holes. So my
question is, have any of you had this problem? Whats the crud from? and
what do you do about it, if any thing? Is this only a problem for Cone Art
kilns because of the metal covering on the lid?

And yes, we do clean our environven and it does draw poperly. We have a
newly cleaned vent, duct, etc and a new lid and he build up is already
starting after just one or two firings.

Any advice is appreciated.

Emily
