The methods I described were pioneered by Bev Bos. She has written three books
teaching children: Together We're Better, Don't Move the Muffin Tins, and Befor
the Basics.
I have been using these methods at the Fayette Cooperating Nursery School and
Kindergarten in Lexington, Kentucky. I have been part of this school for 22
years. We have a student/adult ratio of 6:1 for Kindergarten and 5:1 for
pre-school, which is definently a key element. The children are in school for
three hours per day.
I have seen these methods work effectively with all children (including the
difficult) except one. He was in school for only one semester so I do not know
eventually we would have reached him.
