hello all,
would appreciate knowing anyone's experinces of mixing cobalt oxide---or
other oxides---to the combustible materials in a saggar firing.
Thanks

One thing to beware of, regardless of how effective the color will be: You
will produce toxic ash in the saggar. This is true of any toxic ingredient
added to the saggar. So be ready to dispose of it in a safe manner
(however your local authorities prescribe).

You may find that the temperatures inside the saggar are too low to get
results from cobalt (they don't volatlize in my firings)...but I have
had some results with cobalt sulfate. You may also apply a cobalt wash
(sulfate or other form) and bisque it on first...then saggar fire to add
smoking and other effects on top. Good luck.
