Pacifica Belts:

A couple of thoughts on recent belt questions and belt maintenance.
The Pacifica belt material is polyurethane, and the round,
polyurethane belt has been our choice for many years because it's
construction does not crate the "thump, thump, thump" sound with each
rotation as the poly V belt used by by some manufactures is prone to
do.

While occasional belt squeaking is not unusual, it is almost
always eliminated by two or three short (1/2 second) spray bursts of
the non-residual silicone provided with all new Pacifica wheels. The
spray is applied through the opening in the belt cover which is
easily accessible immediately behind the motor. While the belts are
rotating, simply apply two or three short bursts of spray, and within
30 seconds, the squeak should be gone. If you don't find the
non-residual spray at your local hardware store, it is available from
Laguna for only $3.00. One can will last years.

I appreciated the comments and concerns of several auto mechanics
who responding on ClayArt to the squeaky belt question. Both the
composition of the material and the actual use of the belts in an
automobile are dramatically different than a potters wheel
application. Using non-residual, silicon spray in the designated
amount on polyurethane belts which will turn at a top speed of 300
RPM is definitely the solution to the "squeaks."

By the way, in response to the comment regarding repairs, the
average, current turn around time in our shop is six work days.
