newbie to glaze making

Hi,
This is the scoop. I do not really want to focus on glazemaking
particularly but have an interest in Majoilica as a 'surface' exploration.
So I have just invested in chemicals for making 2 different recipes for
Majoilica; Linda Arbuckle's and a mid range recipe. I also bought the scale
and some plastic containers. Now all I need are directions for how to
interpret the recipe and to proceed (converting percentage to grms formula
for instance). What book do you pros recommend to someone who has not yet
mixed a glaze and likes to make life complicated?
Thanks,
Centa

Centa,
Converting a percentage recipe to grams is perfectly easy, and doesn't
require any formulas. It is just grade school math: say your recipe
requires 17% feldspar, and you want to make a total of 400 grams as a test.
Take 17% of 400 and that is your feldspar amount (.17 X 400 = 68 grams).
Do the same for all the ingredients. If you are making test tiles, 300 or
400 grams is probably enough for an initial test. Less than that and it is
hard to measure the smaller amounts. Hope that is helpful.
