Shaner's Gold
Sorry to have taken so long to respond.
I knew I had a piece of valueable paper around and it took longer
to find it than I thought it would.
Took a workshop from him years ago. Told the story of how he came
up with the receipe and why. Great guy. If you ever have a chance
to do a workshop with him do it. Seems that Shaners's Gold is a
variation of Shaner's Red.
This is from a handwritten receipe by Dave himself.
"ORIGINAL SHANER'S RED
Custer Feldspar 52.7
Talc 4.
Whiting 21.3
E.P.K. 25.
Bone Ash 4.
Iron Oxide(red) 4."
*then he wrote:*
---------------------------------
"Gold 2 to 3 Iron
2 rutile
---------------------------------
Green.yellow 3 rutile
4 copper"

Out to the side: "needs correct application.high content Iron Oxide.
reduction throughout fire.clear kiln at end"

I had been using a slight variation (seems there are several out there)
of Shaner's Red for years before: Georgia kaolin instead of epk, and
whiting at 23.3 (which caused my variation to add up to 109%), and
RIO at 5%. Still works great. Like the note said: "needs correct
application" I would add: not too thick
BTW among the same papers was Dave's Oribe if anyone is still
interested email me
