Looking forward to going to NCECA, and will be travelling down to San
Antonio for a few days after the conference. Since it's been a LONG time
since I've been there can anyone reccommend interesting potteries or
galleries along the way to San Antonio. Many thanks, Liz

If you are driving from Fort Worth I would stop in Austin at Clarksville
Pottery. It is a very nice space and some beautiful pottery.

Hi, Liz.

There will be several galleries in Austin, along the way. If
you go through Waco, and I think you will, then if you take the
Elm Mott exit you will come to the place where Pat Chesney has
his kilns; I understand that they are great, state-of-the-art
pieces of equipment, though I've not seen them (yet).

There is a big pottery in McQueeny, which is between San Marcos
and San Antonio; belongs to Walt Glass. I've not been there,
but he was a friend of Harding Black, has lots of Harding's
copper red glazes. In San Antonio, there is the Southwest Craft
Center, and I've no doubt that they'd point you to many local
potters/galleries. The Center itself is both physically charming
in setting and design, and full of ceramics, and they have a sales
gallery, too.

No doubt there'll be more information to come. But after NCECA,
you'll be tired of pots, anyway, and want to see something else,
likely. Or not.

Regards,

Dannon

Liz, I highly recommend that you get to the Blue Star Gallery. It is on
Blue Star street, and has work from potters to contemperary artist. There
is also a really cool brewery there, good food too. The McNay is
wonderful as well as the San Antonio Museum of Art. Enjoy, it is a great
city. Jennifer in Alpine, TX
