Calling all artists in the above disciplines living in and around Ames, Iowa...

A group of ISU faculty in the above disciplines---and a group of soon-to
graduate students that are serious about pursuing their craft after
graduation---will be meeting with the staff from the local community arts
center, the Octagon Center for the Arts, to begin a dialog about creating a
place for these students and other local artists to pursue their craft. The
lack of affordable, available studio space does not currently exist in Ames.
Envisioned is the establishment of low cost, group studio space where
emerging artists in the above disciplines can work while they establish
their careers. Large equipment such as kilns, slab rollers, etc. would be
shared by the group. Each member would havee a small, secured space in
which to work. dThis would likely be formed as a non-profit organization
with links to the Octagon. The space would potentially include gallery
space and a place for classes to be held. Artists in the Central Iowa
region who might be interested in this idea are invited to contact me, so
that we can gauge interest in the larger community. We would like to hear
from you by Feb. 18, the day before our first meeting.
