bisque firing in a gas kiln - contact with flame?

Hi all

I have a Thermolite kiln (updraft, 4 MR 750 burners (using propane), approx
inside measurement 28x28".). I've bisque fired successfully a number of tim=
es
with the kiln. I have some larger pieces to bisque now (bowls about 13-15"=
in
diameter, vases about 22" in height). Up to this point, I have avoided
extending any pieces off the shelf which would be directly over where the g=
as
jet flames are But with the larger pieces, it would be great if I could ut=
ilize
the extra space. Would it be harmful to have the gas flames in contact wit=
h the
pieces? The clay I'm using is Soldate 60. Eventually will glaze the piece=
s to
cone 6.

Thanks
