When Matt Souviani rebuilt my woodkiln, instead of having the
softbrick on the inside, it put it on the outside. He hopes to
salt fire in the future.

The arch is hardbrick on the inside, with a layer of soft covered by
fiber blanket. He fires in 20 hours and gets fantastic results.
He is grateful for the kiln, because LPG is getting very expensive in
Japan and like me, he fires with wastewood.

When I first arrived in Mashiko, only Euan was firing with
wastewood. With all the red pine dying and LPG getting expensive,
many people are using recycled wood.

One problem in Mashiko is radiation. They have to take
their ash from kilns and wood stoves to the city office to be tested
for radiation. Things are tough there. They still need our help.
They are grateful for all the folks that donated to the Mashiko
Relief fund.

You can still help rebuilt the Hamada Museum by buying a tshirt:

Dear customers and supporters,

Thank you for your patience if you tried to order a t-shirt in the
last few days. We've now been given the green light to sell t-shirts
to help support the Hamada Reference Museum and our setback has now
been cleared up. Feel free to order anytime!

We hope that you like the t-shirts and look forward to providing you
with up-to-date information about Mashiko, including progress on the
reconstruction of Hamada's Reference Museum.

that he was still popular!)

This t-shirt was produced to help in the repair and reconstruction of
Shoji Hamada's Reference Museum in Mashiko, Japan, which was severely
damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011. Special
thanks to Ryotaro Sasame (Sprout Design Studio) for the designs.
