> Kevin and JoAnne DeKeuster will co-lead this demonstration workshop. Alt=
=3D
hough the couple shares a studio space and a love for wood fired ceramics, =
=3D
their work is diversely different. Kevin=3DE2=3D80=3D99s main focus is whe=
el thr=3D
own objects, while Jo=3DE2=3D80=3D99s work is strictly hand built.
>=3D20
> Kevin will demonstrate throwing functional and sculptural forms reaffirmi=
=3D
ng his belief that one can simultaneously be successful as both a functiona=
=3D
l potter and an artistic clay artist. Kevins emphasis will include encoura=
=3D
ging the observer to create functional work that will have an individual st=
=3D
yle and flair. This, he believes, cannot be achieved without first learnin=
=3D
g proper techniques of the craft, then adding artistic style. With his scu=
=3D
lptural work his main focus will be on creating vessels by combining thrown=
=3D
pieces and adding hand built details.=3D20
>=3D20
> JoAnne will demonstrate her unique hand built slab techniques. She will =
=3D
share with the observer the many techniques and tricks of the trade that sh=
=3D
e has learned over the years from her many mentors. The tips range from co=
=3D
nstruction and decoration, to drying and firing. She will also share her j=
=3D
ourney as her style developed from simple press mold plates to the pieces s=
=3D
he creates today. It is her belief that as an artist, one must develop a d=
=3D
istinctive style, but within that style your work needs to continually grow=
=3D
and evolve
>=3D20
> JoAnne and Kevin DeKeuster are full time professional artists that curren=

tly reside in the Taos New Mexico Area. Kevin was born in Racine, Wisconsi=

n. He attended Milton College, in Milton Wisconsin on football scholarship=

. It was there that he received his B.F.A. in ceramics. JoAnne grew up ne=
=3D
ar the small town of Waumandee, Wisconsin. She received a B.A. in Art Educ=
=3D
ation from the University of Wisconsin =3DE2=3D80=3D93 Eau Claire. After m=
arryin=3D
g, the couple moved to Arizona. Together they continued their study of art=
=3D
at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff Arizona, receiving a Masters d=
=3D
egree in ceramics. Coursework at NAU included travel and study in Japan. =
=3D
After completion of their Masters degrees, Jo and Kevin continued to spend =
=3D
summers in Flagstaff. They began working for the university as kiln assist=
=3D
ants and eventually each taught the summer Noborigama Wood Fire class. The=
=3D
ir work is greatly influenced by the wood-fired kilns located in Flagstaff =
=3D
and Japan. All of the couples=3DE2=3D80=3D99 ceramic artwork is fired with =
wood.
