Hi guys,
thanks to all of your advice (way back when) I report back that my firings
went beautifully. I made 2 large custom address tiles, you can see them on
my website, on the page of address tiles (the last two on the page). They
are about 18" x 15".
I made them thick, out of Standard earthenware 417 with grog, fired them on
thin strips of clay laid out on the shelf before hand, fired them at the
top of the kiln and fired very very slowly, esp 900- 1200 degrees, both
going up and down. The firings took 22 hours.
Total success!
