kaki recipe

remember, kaki in japanese is `persimmon`.
and that is not black...but a deep red.

cone 11+/light reduction
custer feldspar 9 1/4 pounds
epk china clay 1 pound
whiting/calccarb 1 1/4 pounds
talc 1 pound
iron oxide/red 2 1/2 pounds +- to taste
bone ash 2 1/2 pounds
(the bone ash is what is critical for the red color)
sorry folks, but i convert all my glazes to pounds/ounces.
this recipe will make one 5 gallon pail of glaze.
i run it through a stainless kitchen sieve three times.
just for distribution and get rid of junk.

this is a joe koons recipe, but i have almost the identical
recipe from susan karrasch ( her note book from
california, 1965), and another from doug gray.
i call it joered. this glaze would too, be a good base if you
want to try hares fur, just add ron roys super black magic temmoku
over it...and fire hot, like cone 12. thickness is critical...
and it takes a great deal of experimentation. as always, it
does not travel very well. clay body is critical, thickness, and
the amount of reduction. and, if you can hit cone 11 perfectly.
but, other than that. good luck.

anyone that gets this nice red orange, send me pix.
