I have a reservation at the Sheraton, but my artist-in-residence Bryce
Brisco was shocked when he made his reservation and it came out to over $70=
0
for the four nights. I am paying a good part of his expenses, but he has t=
o
pay his room and food. I expect that I missed out on some good discussion
of alternate hotels because I already had my reservation. I expect that
there are others in the same boat, so if you have found any good deals on
alternate hotels, please let me know on-list. Bryce is a wonderful guy, a
wood/salt potter who recently completed his MFA at Ohio University with Bra=
d
Schweiger. If you'd consider sharing a room with him, let me know. He is
open to all possibilities that will save him some money and give him the
opportunity to get to know new people.

If he doesn't mind hosteling there is a cheap hostel about 1/2 mile away
from the convention center. It is called Green Tortoise. For a 4 bunk room
I think the rate is around 32-35 dollars per night.

For those interested, on the NCECA web-site there are three more hotels
offered now. . .THe Red Lion, and Homewood Suites, and the Renaissance. .
.prices are on their web-site. . .www.nceca.net. We are staying at the
Hilton, 2 blocks from the Convention Center. . .about the same price as the
Sheraton. We are staying there because we collect points from the Hilton
change. . .a great way to get extra points for a free night at any of their
chain hotels. Hopefully, we will see a few others there that are going to
NCECA.

I had luck booking a reasonably priced hotel room:
http://www.paramounthotelseattle.com one block away, same distance walk as
the Sheridan. $170 for a large room with a king sized bed (two queens are
already booked up).

See you all there!!!

Hi Joyce and all at Clayart,

Sorry to copy almost all of Joyce's post, but it all seemed relevant.

I too am foregoing NCECA this year, mainly due to financial reasons, but,
if we were going to have an actual Clayart room open until late in the
evening, I might have been tempted to dig deep into my savings to be there.
Without an actual Clayart room in the hotel, as Joyce says, "down the hall"=
, the
temptation was just not strong enough. Getting together in the hotel bar,
where you are sharing the space with everyone else at the hotel, just does=
not
seem the same. I think it is very nice that NCECA is providing a room in
the Conference Center, but there is so much to do and see during the
Conference time, that spending any meaningful time in the Clayart Room ther=
e is
probably not going to be the same. It is during the evenings that everyone =
is
relaxed and that is when it is such fun to connect with the wonderful peopl=
e on
this list. It is too bad that NCECA cannot provide a room in the hotel for
Clayart. That would have been perfect!

Joyce, I join you in saying that I will throwing and glazing while our buds
are enjoying themselves in Seattle. I will miss not seeing you and so many
others. Like you, maybe I will be tempted to try for next year, with the
same conditions, after hearing what a wonderful time everyone has had this
year. And, I do hope that all of those who are attending will indeed have a
great time.

All the best.

Veena
