I'm not sure "density" is the best term here but I get your drift. In addin=

a proportion of coarser material you would get a consistency that would
promote those qualities,

Yes. Tighter, finer textured, ironbearing clays are more prone to
cc. I found this to be true with Bizen clay. They did not like
to have a glaze coating on them in heavy reduction.

Hi Lili,

If the problem is due to not enough oxygen getting into the clay
during a bisque firing - then anything that allows more air
circulation should help to some degree - I would think.

Anyone care to do some experiments?
