I fail to see what the big deal is in building a spring arch. And please,
this is in no way bashing Nils' flat top construction that works fine. Its
just another way.

Any one with basic woodworking skills, or perhaps even none, can build an
arch form and design a basic angle iron famework, skew details, etc. The
arch tables in any of the pocket refractory handbooks are easy to
understand, and the arch itself is not rocket science to build.

There is incredible support on this list as well as in the clay community.
I guess its a matter of overcoming the fear factor and just jumping right
in.
