i have found the new high temp mortars to
be very good. i agree with vince...for a large
patch you want a cement like quality.

i have mixed broken torn fiber
with high temp mortar to make big patches.

in fact, we fixed a very broken big electric kiln
top (ten pieces) with high temp mortar
and banded it with wire...let it dry...and
yahoo, new top.

at the farm when folks are working...there is
no time to order new.....we fix.

it worked like a charm.

that old a. p. greene mortar was crap.
the new stuff really works.

i used to buy a product that was called
trowel eze...but cannot find it..now i
get a high temp mortar from fire brick supply
in st. paul. great stuff.
they also have all the flue liners and kiln shelves. a great company and
i am glad they are in st. paul.
