wear on cone drive wheel.

Hi All,

A friend of mine has a SCARAMOUCHE 'Supercompact' wheel made by
Potter's Mate. Its a small cone driven wheel with a decent horse power
motor that looks well constructed.

On using it after a while in storage, it was found to have very little
torque. There is a round cross section rubber band on the flywheel
that has a noticeable flat outer edge, i assume from contact with the
cone. When i lifted the machine i noticed a small amount of tiny
rubber bits, similar to what you get using a rubber pencil eraser on
paper. My question is what would be considered normal wear for the
rubber. She mentioned she did have to replace the rubber not that long
after she got the machine. Do they normally shed tiny bits, or has the
rubber compound aged, it seems quite soft and flexible, i assume it
would be the opposite if it was too old.

There is an adjustment lever on the side which i assume increases
contact between the cone and rubber, but as the manual wasn't
available and i wasn't obvious how the mechanism worked i only tested
this briefly, to no obvious effect.

Graham.

This particular wheel does use a soft rubber pressure "band" which is prone=

o wear as you have seen.=3D20
If you put "Potter's Mate" into your browser you should come up with a cont=
a=3D
ct address in Essex UK which is where they were made.=3D20
If the company still exists you should be able to get spares.=3D20
I have not known them to ever have a web presence.=3D20

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply, she is going to order a new one. I was looking
at her machine with a view to ordering one myself, but may go up a
price bracket or two, and go for a direct drive machine.

Graham.
