one has to be careful that every issue becomes `DANGEROUS`.

use your head, make a few adjustments and safety
works.

far too many go nuts with anything that burns or
goes around fast.

it really depends how often you do it.
how many thousand feet of foam are you going
to use the hot wire on in the next year?
oh, four feet.
three cuts.
ten minutes.

my god, don't ever roast weenies or sit in front of a night time
bon fire...you could die. i hate to think of all the kids that
will never have a chance to go camping, sleep out and sit and
stare at a fire.

same with kaowool. you make one kiln in 30 years.
use some kaowool, fiber. if you are worried, spray it
with itc 100 and encapsulate it.

workers at factories using kaowool all day, every day over
ten years may want additional protection. to build one kiln.
no problem.

i mix glaze a few times a year. i wet the floor, use lots of water
and sort of think things through.
not a problem. i don't mix glaze materials 10 hours a day, for two
years. my lung tests are perfect.

how often are laws made, enforced to protect the most frightened
in the society?... that 1 percent.

how often does clayart become the standard of fear?
all of a sudden some dork will quote clayart and have a law
made that we cannot use clay or glaze in school. whoooo, clay
is dangerous for kids.

it is odd that 15,000 people a year die in the u.s. of overdose
of prescription drugs. no one blinks. `oh, that is sad.`
cars kill thousands. no one does a thing. booze kills kids
at an alarming rate...but, we want to pass a law that kids cannot
make things of clay. protect them. stupidity.
use your head when writing to clayart. don't be an alarmist without
knowledge.

Mel,

Your missives to Clayart are most often spot on,
but this is, in my opinion, the most cogent,
relevant and important message you have
ever posted.
