joe koons was a big fan of bentonite.
you have to experiment with amounts.

i use it in almost everything.

I second the notion that Bentonite is a "swear by" additive.

It is a use every time(never had a problem)additive for me=3D2C and I am sh=
ak=3D
e my head puzzled=3D20
by the common resistance to its use.=3D20
Or adherence to the old 1.5% rule still held fast to by many who do use it.=
=3D
=3D20
Someone published that 1.5 working percentage for a particular glaze eons a=
=3D
go.=3D20
It worked for that glaze but was most likely never intended as generalized =
=3D
dogma.

I have gone up to 5.0% along with my two other favorites CMC and Glass Magi=
=3D
c=3D20
for stubborn cases of high frit and/or iron saturated glaze compositions. =
=3D
=3D20
(The Iron damn near floats!!!)=3D20
And if you can get some ball clay in there as well you just made the "best"=
=3D
better still!!!

As Mel says below=3D3B "you have to experiment with amounts"

David Woof......Clarkdale=3D2C Arizona....

Is it fear of doing something "wrong"=3D2C or really not knowing enough bas=
ic=3D

practical glaze chemistry that keeps some huddled in the dark clinging to a=
=3D
nd repeating
the words of long dead masters spoken in their time from their experience??=
=3D
?
Our Task is not to prove them wrong=3D2C but push their truths ahead by bui=
ld=3D
ing=3D20
on further explorations of what still holds true and valuable for our time =
=3D
and technology. =3D20
