this is an old trick:

find the crack or blemish...heat the spot with a
bernzomatic torch...pull both sides out with a
needle nose plier...about three inches.

let it cool. take sandpaper/emery and polish the ends.
grab both ends in the pliers and heat til red/then twist
them together. bingo, it should be just fine.
fire normally.

thanks mel.

looks like more than a crack, there is about an inch of element
missing! probably had a pot with glaze touching it. and it eventually
ate through the element. hoping this works.

at one of the school studios, the elements on some of the electric kilns=

didn't have heat.

I also picked up on a technique the outgoing tech used for emergency
patches. Put a little , tiny bit of paste ,made up of borax and water,
where the two elements come in contact. the idea was that the dab, i me=

the broken segments and put a dab where they touch.
