I hope some manufacturers are reading these opinions! A gull can dream =3D
can't she?

Steve M writes: "Now what I would like is a nice cast iron wheel-head =3D
like I had on my Leach Treadle Wheel. Strong, friendly, and resistant to =
=3D
wear,...."

One of my home made wheels had a wheel head made of a cast iron griddle =3D
on which a welder who knew how to weld onto cast iron welded a plumbers =3D
flange. If "griddle" is a US not GB word--it is like a frying pan, but =3D
has only a tiny lip...Of course a cast iron frying pan, turned upside =3D
down....

(I miss the days when "everyone" made her own tools)

I have had my CI plastibats for a long time...and they are in fine =3D
shape. Could it be I handle them with care-- do not use them as =3D
Frisbees or hot-plates and like that?

As Vince points out bats are great for those of us who work and rework =3D
same pot on wheel...Decorating, adding, cutting...etc. If the =3D
plastibats are the same today as mine are they have ribs on the bottom =3D
which give on a good grip when one needs to tilt the pot.

If the holes are deformed on some bats, could one not "line" the holes =3D
with epoxy putty? =3D20

Also: Many years back someone had a "tip" in CM about using, as bat =3D
pins, the plastic screws used for attaching license plates to cars. =3D
Tried it. It works. And cannot damage the bats, although they do wear =3D
out.

And maybe students should pay a refundable "rental" for bats...to =3D
discourage abuse.

As to wheel speed. Glad others agree about SLOW. It really IS a health =
=3D
issue. Most have no idea how fast their wheel is turning...DO take a =3D
stopwatch --and make a mark on your wheel, or stick a little peg into a =3D
batpin hole and count! You'd be amazed...60 RPM is more than fast =3D
enough....As said, I throw at around 40 RPM.
