this is a common problem for many newish potters.

there is a good rule to follow.
`only keep one kind of clay on hand in your studio.`
that would be the temp of clay you use all the time.

it is very silly to have clay that you do not know the
composition or temp.

clay is cheap....very cheap. don't make pots from
unknown clay...ever.

throw it out. grow tomatoes with it.

that is why i almost never fire pots from people i do
not know or trust. in fact that would be never.

the cost of melted clay in your kiln can be huge...lost shelves.
dripping into other pots..mess and work to clean up.
never worth twenty cents worth of clay.
